Home Remedies for Fleas | How to Get Rid of Fleas Naturally

Pesticides, herbicides and insecticides are not our friends. Even more so they are not our environment or our wildlife's friends. People underestimate the damage caused by these toxic substances, the long term results and harm they can bring to every spectrum of earthly life.

Lemons have a natural acidic quality that can relieve the irritating itching caused from an allergic reaction to the flea’s saliva. The lemons also have an anti-inflammatory ingredient that will help with the swelling a bite may cause. To use the lemon, you will need either fresh lemon juice or fresh lemon slices.

If you are using lemon juice just squeeze some of the lemon juice either on a cotton ball or directly on your skin where the flea bite is. If you are using a fresh lemon, take the lemon slice and squeeze the juice out of it and use the lemon slice to rub it directly on your skin. With either lemon remedy you are using, let the lemon dry on your skin and leave it there for a couple of hours. There is no color left on your skin.

Vacuum floors, carpets, sofas, beds and concentrate especially on the areas where your pet sleeps or generally spends the most time. Also think about where it is most likely that your pets carry the insects into the house. Seal and toss vacuum cleaner bags out immediately. If you use a bagless vacuum cleaner, remember to empty and clean it.

Check your home for hidden standing water. Stagnant pools of water will attract pests. You should also check your plumbing for leaks. Just like humans, insects and other pests require water to live. If you eliminate the water source, you eliminate the pests.

Garlic is another one, and that actually my wife suggested. Once again, add in Garlic to your dogs daily diet and bam! Sends fleas and Ticks home packing. Fleas and Ticks can't stand the odor of garlic that is released through dogs skin, and causes them to flee.

Products like borax or dry powdered laundry detergent can be sprinkled on your carpets, let it sit for a few minutes, then vacuum. This will kill the fleas and their eggs. Make sure that your pets and your kids are not around when you treat your carpets, and make sure that you empty your vacuum immediately after vacuuming.

All you need is a shallow dish about 10 inches diameter and a tea candle. The idea is to put about half an inch of water into the dish and place the candle in the middle. Once the dish has been placed securely preferably on the floor - beware of any sort of fire hazard with furniture and carpets - then light the candle.
